Veth Azimuth Thrusters

Rudder Propellers

Veth Azimuth Thrusters are well-suited for a wide range of vessels, thanks to our flexibility and customization. Your preferences serve as the foundation, with several options, configurations, and drive lines to choose from. Our azimuth thrusters are available in either Z-drive or L-drive configurations and can be powered by any energy source. The control system for the azimuth system can be either electric or hydraulic. Additionally, the thruster units come with options for open propellers, counter-rotating propellers, or nozzles.

Veth Propulsion embraces the power of simplicity, combined with robustness and sustainability. To achieve this, we minimize moving parts outside the gearbox, and all Veth thrusters feature compact construction with minimal piping. Our commitment to using durable, high-quality materials ensures a robust and reliable construction, resulting in long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance requirements. By designing and building all rudder propellers in three separate main components, which are then assembled using class-approved connections, our Veth thrusters are not only robust and reliable but also easily serviceable.

Thruster Variations
Integrated L-Drive

Azimuth thrusters where the electric motor is mounted vertically, removing the second bevel gear from the drivetrain.

Z-Drive

The rotary motion makes two right angle turns, thus resembling the letter "Z", used to connect the mechanically supplied driving energy to the Z-drive azimuth thruster device.

Applications L-drive

Integrated L-drive

The Veth Integrated L-drive is diesel-electric driven, which results in hugh noise reduction in the first place. Due to the compact design the mounting space requirements are extremely low.

ELITE Yacht Thrusters

ELITE is a versatile solution adjusted to the specific requirements of the individual yacht. It draws on proven technology to offer innovation that you can count on.

Shallow Draft Thrusters

Veth designed its propulsion to be enclosed within the ship’s hull instead of free hanging below the hull. This allows the ship to sail at extreme shallow water conditions with an optimal, undisturbed flow to the propellers.

Swing Out Thrusters

The 360 degrees steerable thruster can be folded fully flat inside the ship, ensuring a low construction profile.

Retractable thruster

The retractable thruster provides hydraulic lifting and lowering of the unit, enabling it to retract into the hull when not in use.

Advantages

Advantages

  • Robust, reliable and easily serviceable
  • Custom made for your requirements.
  • Powered by any source
  • The foundation is always adapted to the shape of your ship’s hull: no further welding required
  • No fixed center-to-center distances. Your thruster will be completely tailor-made for your vessel.
  • All thrusters are suitable for 100% continuous rated power
  • Sealing systems, with integrated seal oil level alarms, separates large quantities of lubricant from the environment
  • The freewheel clutch is integrated (optional) in the upper gearbox
  • Veth Propulsion offers an integrated slipping clutch solution as an option. This slipping clutch enables the operator the ability to manoeuvre the vessel with absolute accuracy

Drive Options

The starting point for the choice of the appropriate rudder propeller is the sailing profile of your ship.Based on that, you can opt for various drives:

  • Diesel-direct
  • Diesel-electric / LNG-electric
  • Hybrid

Diesel-direct driven Veth thrusters have a built-in clutch, with its controls integrated into the Veth Control System. A compact solution which makes the thruster easier to install.

Foundations

Most common solutions are:

  • Rigid bolted suspension. The thrusters can be built into the vessel on a rigid suspension foundation, where the thruster is bolted directly onto the bottom well.
  • Flexible suspension. The thrusters can be mounted in a flexible suspension bottom well, to suppress noise and vibration when operating. To create a flexible suspension, rubber isolation rings are inserted between the upper foundation and the bottom well.
Propellers

All Veth thrusters are available with either an open propeller, counter rotating propellers or with a nozzle. The choice of propeller depends on speed, draft and your sailing profile. Our propellers are standard made of CuNiAl and hydraulically mounted allowing simple disassembly.

  • Open propellers are mainly chosen for higher speeds
  • Nozzle configurations are the best solutions for high thrust at low speeds. Veth Propulsion offers two types of nozzles: VG40 is recommended when high thrust at higher speeds and sailing performances are relevant. VOB50 is often used with tug- and push boats
  • Counter Rotating (CR) units consists of two propellers rotating in opposite directions. The second propeller removes the whirling of the water caused by the first propeller. This results in minimal rotational losses and optimal efficiency. More about the Counter Rotating solutions of Veth Propulsion
